Food woes...
As Jacob get's older, i'm finding it harder to find foods for him that he can feed himself that are both healthy and eatable! Last night we had hamburgers and I figured, what the heck, he can have one too. Of course I didn't give it to him like the picture shows (purely for photo op's...so don't get any ideas grandparents!), I cut it up into small pieces for him. He ate the bun and meat seperately most of the time, but ended finishing half a hamburger by the time he was done.
He loves toast with peanut butter or cream cheese, so that's nice and easy. We've done fusilli pasta with a yam/sweet potato sauce. We're going to try whole peas and carrots this week to see how he does with out blending them up. He loves to feed himself, i'm just worried he won't get the nutrition he needs with the self feeding though! With his weight gain problems from 6-8 months still clear in my mind, I just want to continue on the weight gaining path we have figured out together.
I think one of our biggest challenges is that Tyler and I are such picky-yet plain eaters. We like the same things to eat over and over again...and I know that's not good for Jacob as I want him to be able to try many different types of food. But when it comes to vegetables, i'm kind of stuck! He likes broccoli, cauliflower, peas, carrots, squash, eats green beans but does not like them...what else can we do?!
For meats he eats chicken, pork and beef...we don't eat fish so we won't go there.
And fruits he loves anything i give him pretty much.
But the "main dish" is where i struggle! Bah. I hate cooking too so this sucks!
Thank fully he loves my turkey meatloaf that i make...mmm nice and garlic-y!
With the meats i'm just so afraid he'll choke from not chewing it enough, but I know he needs to protein and the Iron that they offer.
And what about sauce? When do you introduce them to a baby? I'm talking teriayki stirfry etc...I would love to give him that! But how much can his little tummy handle?!
We haven't started the transition to milk yet...mainly because I keep forgetting to buy it. But maybe now that i've written it down here I'll remember....
Oh the joys of food.
